Mamiya ZD Digital Back!

Today marks the day when my Mamiya 645 see a new side of things! For those that don't know, I recently sold my leica m3 and my Nex 7 to purchase a digital back for my mamiya 645.   To be honest I was a bit scared of letting these two cameras go, but now that I've shot a few test shots, I feel like I made the right decision! To give you an idea why a digital back on my mamiya would be worth it, I have to first explain the sensor size. You see, Most people shot on crop cameras, and for the most part "Pros" shoot on full frame cameras. The difference between these two on the surface level is the sensor size.

Although these are more difference between the two, size does matter! When shooting on a crop sensor, one of the main disadvantages is the fact that you are not utilizing a lens full focal length, that is why there is a crop factor. In the example above, the red border represents what a photo would look like if taken on a crop camera.

The Blue border is what a photo would look like taken from the same distance using the same lens. As you can see its a huge difference! Another added benefit is the ability to use your lens DOF to its full potential!

Last, we have a medium format sensor! If I have to point out the obvious then you might want to get your eyes check! The difference between the other two is incredible!

So as you can see, I think I made the right move. Now don't get sad and be like.. "But what about Film!" Don't worry my Film photos are not going any where! I will be shooting both side by side! With that, I am completely excited and can't wait to try this puppy (no pun attended) out! Till next time!!!
