The Kind of Coffee you don't want to drink!
I hear it all the time... "I just don't have the chemicals to develop my own stuff!" Well guess what folks? You can just toss that excuse out the window!!! What if I told you that I bet you have the right ingredients in your kitchen to make your very own developer! Yes my film loving photogs, you heard me right!
Alright so this is what your going to need. Its just 3 simple ingredients, some washing soda, instant coffee, and some good ol' Vitamin C! Ok, now this is the tricky part, as for mixing, I have to tell you I had no idea what I was doing... from reading about coffee developers online a while back I remember that there is suppose to be a correct mixture that needs to be measured in order for this stuff to really work. As for me, I just used a good ol' spoon and mixed 4 spoons of washing soda, 2 spoons of coffee, and 1 spoon of vitamin C.
Danger! This mixture is not meant to be consumed! Some would like to think that it would give you a boast of energy, vitamin c, and a good tummy cleaning, but this is not the case! What you will get is a good burial, and a bunch of sad people!
Ok, for my first try I decided to print a photo of a good friend of mine! Mr. Eddie Harris! As you can see from the high quality iPhone photos that I took, this stuff really works! Long story short, I did a test strip and ended up exposing for 10 secs. What amazed me about this stuff was the fact that it sat in the develop for a good 3 mins before something good started to appear on the paper! At first I was pretty disappointed and thought I had measured wrong, but give another minute or so this bad boy really started to shine!
My only regret is not being able to show this in person. I say this because in order to get the full effect of the awesomeness of this developer you really have to see it to believe it. The shadow detail is amazing. Ill have to find a way to scan these photo to show what I mean. I printed pretty big and my scanner doesn't scan that large of a photo!
I also decided to print another photo before calling it a night. This time I printed a photo of Eddie's shop cat. This sucker is nothing but a huge ball of fur! Reminds me of a furry gumdrop! Once again, same thing...test strip...10 sec exposure...developed in coffee!
Alright thats it for now. But before I go I would like to say that developing in coffee also gives the photos a brown tint... and if you can't figure out why that is, then maybe you accidentally had a sip of the coffee developer and should go to the hospital! Ill have to scan these at a later date and update this post so stay tuned!!!!
