Photographing Shadows on your subject
As far as elements go, we tend to think of them as objects within a photograph. Personally, I have fallen victim to this way of thinking in that in order to convey certain types of emotions, one needs to add some sort of physical object in a photograph for their subject to hold. What I learned from this last shoot was that this was not the case. Emotion can be conveyed in a number of ways and through a number of non physical elements.
Loading these photos onto my computer I couldn't help but be amazed at how light, or the lack of it, had such a huge impact on the mood within my photographs. That said, our model did a fantastic job as well as she totally went into character, ultimately capturing the mood we set out to shoot. When it came to editing I had two choices, either adjusting the exposure as to reveal her surroundings or keep it low. As you can tell, i decided to keep it low, I felt that if fit the theme perfectly.
Walking away from the shoot I felt content with the images I had captured, my only regret was that I forgot to pack a roll of film. Sadly, I had to shoot the whole shoot on digital. In the end I was still happy with the way the whole shoot turned out... lesson learned I guess. Alright, as always I am also uploading some of my other shots. Enjoy and make sure to come back... I will be posting more as I am actually behind on about 3 shoots!
